CSA 2010, here Before you know it!

Are  you ready for CSA 2010?

Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 - csa2010.fmcsa.dot.gov The trucking industry will soon see a change in the FMCSA safety rating system, Safestat. The new program, CSA 2010 will soon be underway, which means Comprehensive Safety Analysis.

What has been known since the 1980’s the FMCSA has had the CR in place which maybe better known as the compliance review. The CR is lengthy, and involves a heavy paper-load.  Because of time consuming workload the CR’s for trucking companies that were inspected were lowered. Although the CR evaluation process, is crucial because it is this evaluation process that gives a safety rating to a carrier. And no matter how poorly a company is currently operating the current safety rating does not expire until the carrier is rated again by a compliance review.

As of right now, under the Safestat safety rating system, trucking companies are checked within 4 areas:

  • Driver
  • Vehicle
  • Safety Management
  • Accident

The CSA 2010 system will increase to seven areas (BASICS) :

  • Unsafe Driving
  • Fatigued Driving
  • Driver Fitness
  • Controlled Substance and Alcohol
  • Vehicle Maintenance
  • Improper Loading/Cargo Securement
  • Crash Indicator

Two new safety measurement systems will come into play with the CSA 2010: one for carriers (CSMS) and one for drivers (DSMS). Never before were drivers directly measured for safety under the SafeStat system, but now they will be. Keep yourself and your company prepared when CSA 2010 is fully implements.
